RESIDENTS' RIGHTS
A resident of Delta King Place has the right to:
- Respect as an autonomous individual with unique needs, preferences, history and cultural background
- Participate in the assessment and reassessment of needs, and the development of a Care Plan that documents what assistance is required
- Considerate, continuous, humane and respectful treatment by those who provide service
- Freedom from discrimination based on race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, and economic standing
- Make decisions on the services received even when those decisions may be risky
- Receive the information necessary to understand any supports or services except for those in emergency situation when informed consent is not possible
- To form or join a client’s council to participate in decisions that affect the quality of life in residence
- Accurate information in an understandable manner prior to moving into the building about: services, arrangements, fees and payment schedule, rules and regulations regarding client conduct and responsibilities, entry and exit criteria, client occupancy agreements.
SERVICES
- Privacy with respect to space and personal care and information, information provided will be kept confidential.
- Direct the services received
- Live in a safe and secure environment
- Services provided by qualified staff
- Refuse support or medication to the extent permitted by law, and to be informed of the medical consequences of action
- Receive from a member of the support team, information concerning any condition or needs for support in terms a resident understands
- Know by name, the person responsible for a resident's personal care and the name and function of any person providing care and support
RESPONSIBILITIES
As residents will be in a communal living situation where it is important to get along as a group, a resident has responsibilities. They are responsible for:
- Socially appropriate behaviour
- Not putting other clients or staff at risk for physical or emotional harm
- Directing and participating in all decisions and activities of daily life within the boundaries of their capacity to do so
- Participating with staff in planning for their care and support
- Making decisions and voicing concerns which enable a resident to contribute to plans that govern their lifestyle
- Respecting the rights, properties and privacy of other clients, families, and staff without discrimination based on race, colour religion, gender, or sexual orientation
- Abiding by the rules of the residence
- Communicating with staff regarding vacations, appointments, change of address and telephone numbers, and informing staff of any changes in their plans
- Asking questions if they do not understand any aspect of their care
- Maintaining harmonious relationships with their neighbours and resolving differences when they arise
OTHER EXPECTATIONS
A resident or their family are expected to:
- Provide their own personal care supplies
- Pay for oxygen therapy equipment and supplies
- Provide snacks and other foods for a resident's personal use in their suites
- Have access to a financial institution as no cheque cashing or trust fund service is available in this residence
- Deal with their own financial affairs
- Be responsible for valuables they keep in their suite
- Arrange their transportation to appointments
- Participate in annual reviews of Care Plans
- Be responsible for their personal costs of living including rent, telephone, clothing, products for personal use and enjoyment, BC Medical Services Plan payments, co-payments of pharmaceuticals, and personal health care products.
